In today’s eco conscious world, effective energy and carbon management is crucial for reducing environmental impact. Carys, a recent graduate of Educ8 Training’s Energy and Carbon Management course, is leading sustainable practices in her workplace. We spoke to Carys and explored how the course equipped her with the knowledge and tools to implement energy saving solutions, reduce carbon footprints, and promote sustainability. With hands on experience and a deeper understanding of energy systems, she’s driving change and helping her company meet global sustainability goals.
Turning challenges into opportunities
Carys joined Transport for Wales in November 2020 as a procurement apprentice and moved into her current role in January 2022. With no prior utilities management experience, she learned through hands on guidance from her manager and specialised courses. Since her manager’s retirement in March 2023, Carys has become more independent and is now focused on expanding her knowledge and advancing her career in the field.
Carys said:
‘During my time at TFW, I have completed a level 3 in Supply Chain Management, Carbon Literacy training and a level 3 IEMA foundation course in Environmental Management.’
Pursuing a formal qualification in carbon and energy management
Carys aspires to further her career in this field and with some experience now under her belt, she is eager to gain a formal qualification to deepen her knowledge and expand her abilities.
She said:
‘I’m currently working through the theoretical modules of my Energy and Carbon Management apprenticeship, completing questions that are marked against the criteria. I enjoy working with my trainer, Suzanne, who is supportive and realistic about my study load. Although my full-time job is demanding, I’m managing my studies well. The theory is filling gaps in my knowledge and already improving my job performance. I’d highly recommend an apprenticeship with Educ8 for their great resources and supportive team.’
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Carys’ for sharing her story.
